Twilight Groupie

  • October 1, 2009 1:40 am

The Twilight book series and of course the movies were more than hot last year and this year. They were scorching in fact. Of course you could dress up as one of the characters but even bigger than the characters are the groupies (yes, I can admit I’m one).

Dress up for Halloween this season as a Twilight groupie using Torrid’s and/or Hottopic’s exclusive Twilight Saga plus size clothing and other paraphernalia.

It’s an inexpensive costume and you can wear it to the latest movie afterward:

Viking Princess Costume

  • September 28, 2009 10:15 pm

This has to be my all time favorite costume. Costume Craze is already sold out of the 3x (they’ll probably get more) but they still have 2x and of course smaller sizes elsewhere on the site!Viking-Princess

Vikiing-Princess-EconoThe Plus Size Super Deluxe Viking Princess Costume (at right) comes with the metallic screen print gown, headpiece, necklace, cape and fingerless gloves. All she needs is a viking sword. What sells me on this costumes is the lovely bodice and extra material down the side. This viking princess costume is elite priced at $158.95.

If you need something more economical then there is the Plus Size Vahalla Vixen Costume (at left) which comes with the corset dress and headpiece. I like the pseudo corset look with the bat wing sleeves. Costume Crave has the vahalla vixen costumes in sizes 18 to 24. And it is only $54.95.

For a great viking movie (light on the women, heavy on the men and sword play) check out The 13th Warrior.

Kiss Makeup

Get three other friends together and have a KISS make up party. You can draw straws to see who gets which face and then help one another paint it up. When you are all ready hit the Halloween party lines!

Sure the guys wore/wear costumes but really other than keeping it black and wearing heals all you really need is the makeup. Here are the four traditional make up templates for KISS face make up.

You can get quality theater make up ahead of time from StageandTheaterMakeup.com: Hypo-allergenic makeup for stage, Halloween or everyday wear.. You’ll need lots of white base but smaller amounts of the other colors for the detailing. Don’t forget the powder to set it and utensils like sponges and brushes for applying.

Plus Size Pop Queen

  • September 1, 2009 8:09 am

I knew Michael Jackson was going to be an even more popular costume this year but I never would have guessed it would have been feminized and plus sized but it has. If you have the personality to pull it off then I say go for it. Where do you get one?

Big Gals Lingerie obviously offers lingerie but they also carry costumes; specifically these premium costumes just in time for Halloween. The Queen of Pop versionis available in sizes 1x to 12x, yes I said 12x– one of the best size ranges around. From sizes 5x on up there is an additional $5 to $10 charge.

They have four different designs to choose from. The traditional Queen of Pop, Dirty Diana, Thriller, and the Military version. Personally I like the traditional Queen of Pop and the Military versions the best. These are high quality costumes so don’t be shocked by the prices ranging from $136 to $175 depending on style. The free shipping should make you feel better though!

Plus Size Marilyn Costume

  • August 19, 2009 8:00 am

One of the most glamorous women in the history of Hollywood is Marilyn Monroe (1926 – 1952). She was just starting to become a respected actor before her untimely death — having completed thirty-one films. She has been an idol for curvy women since she hit her 30s although there is some debate as to the size of those curves. Her weight ranged from 118 – 140 lbs so even at her heaviest she was no bigger than a size 12 (and us girls all know that in the fashion industry anything bigger than a 6 is plus size). Regardless of her size, she was curvy, not scrawny, and we still love to emulate her.

The scene and costume she wore from her movie Seven Year Itch is the most popular costume women gravitate towards. If you are thinking of a Marilyn costume but are unfamiliar with the famous subway grate in which her white flowing dress gets a gust of air, or you just want to get into character, here’s the famous clip to inspire you:

You’ve got the attitude all you need is the costume. Buy Costumes has a 50’s Starlet Costume that goes up to size 3x. It includes the flowing dress, you’d still need a wig (unless you are already blonde) and shoes. 50s-Starlet-Costume

If you want a dress that you can wear after Halloween you might want to invest in Monif C’s Marilyn Convertible Dress. It will give you at least ten different styles after the party. It fits sizes 8 to 24 but comes with a fashionable price ($195) but you are also getting quality and wearability.

Next to the dress the most important feature of a Marilyn costume is the make-up. Learn how to get the Marilyn look with these simple instructional videos.

Completing the Geisha Costume

  • August 15, 2009 6:02 pm

In recent years the Geisha costume has been made popular with the success of book turned movie Memoirs of a Geisha. Plus size clothing suppliers have made it easy for you to be a talented Japanese entertainer too. GeishaBuyCos

Buy Costumes has a few styles of plus size Geisha costumes that fits up to size 22. But my favorite is the traditional looking one (pictured right) which includes a beautiful red kimono, obi (sash worn with kimono), slip dress, fan and wig. It’s actually quite economical. All you would need to accessorize is a pair of white socks and flip flops which could be purchased from the dollar store. At the time of this posting they were selling it for $38.99.

One of the most important parts of the geisha costume is the make-up. For a traditional look the face must be painted a smooth white, the lips a deep red and the eyes and brows elegantly defined with black.

Here is a twelve minute video of a woman applying Geisha make-up to give you an idea of how your makeup should look. Buy Costumes has a Geisha make-up kit for only $4.99:

Be sure to practice applying your make-up a once or twice before the big night so you can get a better feel for how to apply it and can make adjustments after you see how it wears after a few hours.
