Eat, drink and be scary.
Not surprisingly I haven’t been able to find a plus size Lara Croft, Tomb Raider costume. But if you are a good raider you can find some items in your closet or at your local discount store.
Personally I prefer the movie version over the game version. Mainly because one is worn by Angelina Jolie and one isn’t. But mostly because I find the movie version more sexy than slutty. There are a number of different costumes to choose from but the one at right would be the easiest (or at least cheapest) to replicate.
What’s needed:
- tight black short sleeve tee shirt or tank top
- short black khaki shorts
- utility belt / duo gun holster / two guns
(eBay)
- combat boots (Zappos)
- long braid
Here’s a little trailer to get you in the spirit:
This has to be my all time favorite costume. Costume Craze is already sold out of the 3x (they’ll probably get more) but they still have 2x and of course smaller sizes elsewhere on the site!
The Plus Size Super Deluxe Viking Princess Costume (at right) comes with the metallic screen print gown, headpiece, necklace, cape and fingerless gloves. All she needs is a viking sword. What sells me on this costumes is the lovely bodice and extra material down the side. This viking princess costume is elite priced at $158.95.
If you need something more economical then there is the Plus Size Vahalla Vixen Costume (at left) which comes with the corset dress and headpiece. I like the pseudo corset look with the bat wing sleeves. Costume Crave has the vahalla vixen costumes in sizes 18 to 24. And it is only $54.95.
For a great viking movie (light on the women, heavy on the men and sword play) check out The 13th Warrior.
Get three other friends together and have a KISS make up party. You can draw straws to see who gets which face and then help one another paint it up. When you are all ready hit the Halloween party lines!
Sure the guys wore/wear costumes but really other than keeping it black and wearing heals all you really need is the makeup. Here are the four traditional make up templates for KISS face make up.

You can get quality theater make up ahead of time from StageandTheaterMakeup.com: Hypo-allergenic makeup for stage, Halloween or everyday wear.. You’ll need lots of white base but smaller amounts of the other colors for the detailing. Don’t forget the powder to set it and utensils like sponges and brushes for applying.

Even after twenties Princess Leia from the Star Wars movies is still a popular choice for a Halloween costume for women. Carrie Fisher has immortalized the look with white clothing and of course the buns. She was definitely at her slimmest during the Star Wars days but that is no reason for her character not to be interpreted with a curvy figure.

Most costume shops like Buy Costumes, Costume Crave, Annie’s Costumes (they also have a plus size Jedi costume up to size 22) carry the traditional Princess Leia garb in sizes up to 12 or plus sizes in the one size fits all which usually fits under size 18. The kit includes the dress, wig, and belt.

But truly the best plus size Leia costumes I’ve seen so far is the Star Princess from Big Gals Lingerie which comes in sizes 1x to 12x for $59 to $69 (depending on size). It includes the dress only and as you can see it is a little sexy than the movie version. You would have to come up with some buns, accessory belt and boots. If you didn’t want to be so leg bare you could cover up with a pair of white opaque tights from We Love Colors.

If you are not going to, or don’t have enough hair to make your own buns Buy Costumes has fake buns for $8.99 as well as seven pairs of white boots from $26 to $55 including one wide width:

As for boots there are a couple of different styles at Zappos. I suggest Zappos because they will be better quality shoes (and an excellent return policy) and you probably don’t want to mess with your feet. Their prices range from pricey wide calf boots at $160 to more affordable gogo boot at $45:

If you have enough hair to do your own buns here is a great tutorial on Japanese buns that would totally work for Leia buns. When you get to the part about wrapping it around you could do it as shown or braid the hair first:
If you are looking for something last minute and a little more economical go with a baggy super white t-shirt, white jeans, and white boots (or shoes). Find a black space gun from the dollar store, do your hair up like Leia and you are good to go.
May the force be with you!
Torrid has added eight more plus size costumes to the five costumes I mentioned a few weeks ago; including this rocking plus size pirate costume. All the costumes are $65.99 but some may or may not require some accessories to finish off the look. You can go with what you have on hand in your own wardrobe or check out the accessories which of course Torrid provides.
Other plus size costumes besides the sexy pirate to the right:
- Riding Hood
- Miss Muffet
- Queen of Wonderland

- Vinyl Vixen
- Snow Princess

I knew Michael Jackson was going to be an even more popular costume this year but I never would have guessed it would have been feminized and plus sized but it has. If you have the personality to pull it off then I say go for it. Where do you get one?
Big Gals Lingerie obviously offers lingerie but they also carry costumes; specifically these premium costumes just in time for Halloween. The Queen of Pop versionis available in sizes 1x to 12x, yes I said 12x– one of the best size ranges around. From sizes 5x on up there is an additional $5 to $10 charge.
They have four different designs to choose from. The traditional Queen of Pop, Dirty Diana, Thriller, and the Military version. Personally I like the traditional Queen of Pop and the Military versions the best. These are high quality costumes so don’t be shocked by the prices ranging from $136 to $175 depending on style. The free shipping should make you feel better though!

Hourglass fashions is getting ready for Halloween, clubbing and whatever comes between. Prices range from $65 to $170 depending on the style. Personally, I like the fairy queen. I expect there will be more added as we move into September (hopefully with plus size models). Many of them are only available in size small to XL while others are offered in sizes up to 4x.

I came across these shoes from Zappos today and they immediately brought up images of a decked out vampiress, dark goddess, or a frisky lady bug. These shoes are definitely daring with their 4 3/4″ heels. I loved the concealed platform in the toe. These shoes were designed by Type Z and if you haven’t guessed they are called “Wicked”. They also come in black or navy if you so choose. I was surprised to find they were only $69. Guess it’s the shop and not the shoe that determines the price. Unless it’s a Jimmy Choo.

Torrid is always guaranteed to carry plus size Halloween costumes that no one else has. This year the showcase includes: Miss Wonderland, Candy Striper, Lady Luck, Fairy Tale Princess, Naughty Cop. They are all in combo sizes 1/2X and 3/4X. There are a little pricier than you average costume shop which is around $49 but the $66 is worth the added cost to get a unique plus size costume made be a plus size fashion house.
